Come with us to discover the Antebellum South: Charleston, South Carolina and Savannah, Georgia.  We will visit historic houses and museums, pre-Civil War plantations and gardens and explore markets and antique shops, all while enjoying afternoon tea each day.

The tour will be a uniquely casual, family-style experience as we travel together as a small group in a luxury passenger van.  We will learn about the area on trolley, bus and boat tours and even a horse-drawn carriage.

To fully experience this historic part of the United States, we will visit two Antebellum plantations, enjoy a an in-depth tour of America’s only commercial tea plantation, see wild-life (alligators?) on a train tour and boat tour of marshland areas, and taste some low-country specialty foods on a gourmet walking-tour.

The hotels we select are chosen for both their charm, and their central locations, so you can easily explore on your own in the evenings, or stroll to a nearby restaurant for dinner.  Our afternoon teas will vary greatly, but you can expect the gracious hospitality that the South is known for at each location.  Some teas will be more of a luncheon style as is customary in this region.

2017 TEA TOUR OF ANTEBELLUM SOUTH

The Charleston Tea Plantation is located on historic Wadmalaw Island in the heart of the Lowcountry of South Carolina. Sandy soils, sub-tropical climate and average rainfall of 52 inches per year, give the island idyllic conditions for the Camellia Sinensis tea plant. William Barclay Hall, world-renowned tea taster and tea maker oversees the daily operations at the Charleston Tea Plantation, and will personally take our group on a private, behind-the-scenes look into the Charleston Tea Plantation and its production of tea as we tour the fields, the factory and tasting room!
